Space communications satellite is part of a satellite communication system. Geostationary orbit communications satellites cover about 40% of the Earth's surface, so that any ground, sea and air communications stations have enough coverage to communicate simultaneously. By placing three geostationary communications satellites equally spaced above the equator, we can achieve a wide range for a global communications zone, except for areas around the poles. The communications satellite is the world's first application and is one of the most widely used satellites. Many countries, such as the United States, the former Soviet Union/Russia and China have launched communications satellites.
